What if I were to tell you that the secret to glowing, dewy, luminous, poreless looking skin is to cleanse with oil??

If you are like I was, you’ll be envisioning an oil slick shine, zit-faced image…but just hear me out and you too will be face up to the basin!

My many years as an aesthetician, I have seen first hand how over cleansing or using harsh cleansers can wreak havoc on your skin. So irritated and overstimulated with the impression that ‘cleaner is better’….and this is why I have to say over and over again- less is more and it’s time to get back to basics.

The answer is oil. Your skin naturally produces oil because it needs it. It is there to provide a function and protect your skin, so embrace it and learn to love it!

The objective of using this cleansing method is to deep clean while balancing our skins oil production at the same time.

How does it works:

So why doesn’t the typically washing with water not work? Water does not dissolve oil. In this case, oil dissolves oil. Like dissolves like. This is why the oil cleaning method is the way to go.

By using oil on your face you are dissolving makeup, dirt, pollution, and other grime that has accumulated over the the course of the day and replacing it with protective nourishing oil.

Lets DO it!

  1. Cleanse your face by rubbing the oil of your choice all over your face (no need to pre-clean first even with a full face of makeup….truuuuuuuust me, just try it!)

  2. Massage in for at least a minute. Give the oil enough time to dissolve the impurities in your pores. (deep breathe and calm your mind at the end of the day)

  3. Soak a washcloth with warm-hot water and ring out gently.

  4. Cover your face with the steamy washcloth and press for a few seconds or until cool. Rinse the washcloth. I usually repeat the process 2 to 3 times (depending if I have a lot of make up on) or until the oil and all the grime has been removed from your face.

Your skin will be left protected and healthy. Skin that is allowed to maintain its natural barriers is healthy skin from deep down meaning fewer breakouts, less wrinkling, better tone and won’t go into over-drive to produce more oil to replace what has been striped.

Everyone is different so it can take time for your skin to adjust to the new cleansing regime but I urge you to sick with it!

    When You Should Oil Cleanse:

First and foremost, this is typically done in the evening, prior to bed. No matter how tired I am, I ALWAYS will wash my face before I go to sleep (that’s the aestheticians knowledge ingrained deep down inside me). Who knows what it has accumulated during the day so laying in it all night is not cool.

In the morning, I typically just splash my face with cold water. There is no need to throughly cleanse after sleeping as your skin has been in its repair/renewal phase.
